Meditation works wonders, but not everyone gets the hang of meditating right off the bat. It takes practice, but it is very much worth it. Effective relaxation can be as simple as putting on your favorite comfy pajamas and listening to music or reading a book. Try lighting a few candles around the room as you lie back and listen to calming, soothing music. Consider aromatherapy candles, which are available in a wide variety of scents to further help the relaxation process along. Ask a friend or family member to give you a massage, concentrating on your shoulders and lower back. Only you can tell when your body is in need of stress-relievers, so don’t hesitate to use any one of these suggestions, or one of your own, to teach your body to relax completely.

Avoid smokers!

This one can be difficult to do, but research has proven beyond any doubt that secondhand smoke is extremely harmful to unborn babies and small children who are exposed to it. Think about your infant’s tiny, frail little lungs being filled with poison. That’s what secondhand smoke is, so make it a rule from day one, no smoking around the Mommy-to-be! This same rule applies to drinking, a major no-no during pregnancy. Yes,there have been “studies” done that claim a small amount of alcohol, usually wine, each day will not negatively affect a pregnancy. Maybe not, but why on earth would anyone take the chance when they can simply wait a few months until the child arrives? It isn’t worth the risk.

Self-care during pregnancy is simple and doesn’t require a great deal of extra anything. Exercise, a good diet, remaining stress-free, and avoiding smokers and their secondhand smoke will just about ensure a healthy and enjoyable pregnancy experience for anyone!

When it comes to big events in a persons life nothing is bigger or more important then the miracle of life itself. It only makes sense that you want the baby shower (the big event to honor the occasion) to be – in a word – perfect. No one can blame you for wanting that much, but does that mean you slave away to the point it isn’t all that enjoyable anymore? Of course not! Luckily, you don’t need to frantically slave over an overly elaborate spread to make this shin-dig really sparkle! All you truly need to make a good entrance for the newest little light in your life is a creative vision and little heart warming touches to really give your guests something to ooh and aah over (besides the baby itself).

Start with a cute, if not a little silly, invite! Set a light mood with a little pun or bright colors. You could even play off the theme you’ve chosen for your shower. No matter what you chose it’s sure to be charming. Not only is it a great way to let people know about the get together, but it’s also a great keepsake for your guests (Or, if your guest is the scrap-booking type, it’s great for scrap-booking the occasion later).


Speaking of theme, you really should consider having one! Themes tend to be how you and your baby shower are remember months – or even years – down the line. You need to ask yourself how you want your baby shower remembered! Choosing a theme can really make any shower truly worth wild, making it a memory that will stick. With a proper theme your unlikely to end up mixing different themes together. Mixing different themes can make the event come out looking unfocused and thrown together – almost like an after thought. Location can be everything. You need somewhere that not only can hold all your guest (i.e. seating, space, and so on) but is highly accessible to the majority of the party goers. Another factor to think about is if you’ve had the shower after the baby, that the location is conducive to the child’s needs! The last thing you want is a crying baby and no where to go to let the tike, and the mother, unwind.

You want to serve snacks, but a simple sample platter just isn’t gonna cut it for the baby and it’s mother. (Not that we can really blame them. Who wants a sample platter with sweaty cheeses and lukewarm meats that all smell a little bit off?) You could craft clever little snacks. Like marshmallows on pretzels to make little rattles. Or maybe your theme is weather and you put little sugar glass clouds on top of cupcakes? No matter what your theme is, themed cookies are fun and easy – surely a snack to remember too!

Decorations, Decorations, Decorations! Not much to say here other then no party is successful without spot on decorations. They don’t need to be big or loud, they just have to be perfect. Making them that special little touch that really brings everything together in the end. They are what everyone ignores at first, but talks about later. If the decorations are the glue the cake is the big tasty ribbon on top. It can be big and loud, or small and pretty. You can pick flavor, color, size and shape – truly making this crucial element to any baby shower – no, any party ever – completely your own.
